The MFJ-971 has the potential to be a great portable tuner.There are many antenna tuners out there that use a roller inductor and 2 variable capacitors to form a T-match. Ordinary T match antenna tuner for all HF ham bands.> First and foremost I am going to use the FRT-7700 with a Grundig Satellit > 400. So the FRT-7700 can be set-up to 'match' and 'tune' both an External Random Wire Antenna for Shortwave and a Indoor Loop Antenna for AM/MW. REMEMBER: The FRT-7700 has its own Antenna Selector Switch (A/B) on its front panel.To match the impedances of both devices, both cables must be connected to a matching transformer with a turns ratio of 2 (such as a 2:1 transformer). This transformer converts a balanced signal from the antenna (via 300-ohm twin-lead) into an unbalanced signal (75-ohm coaxial cable such as RG-6).I can't find anything to complain about except maybe to ask Paul to consider a discount for repeat customers. The settings are easy to come back to and it just sits there and works. I'll be trying some other antennas soon since the quad worked out so well. The Alpha'a tuner works but doesn't have the range to get a great match on all bands.
